2025.09.05

On August 29, the 3rd International Workshop on Brain Science and Artificial Intelligence, jointly organized by the School of Artificial Intelligence of Northwestern Polytechnical University, Shaanxi Biomedical Engineering Society, Shaanxi International Joint Research Center for Brain-Computer Integration and its Unmanned System Applications, and the Chinese Association of Computer Scientists in Germany, was successfully held at Northwestern Polytechnical University. Relying on the key international (regional) cooperation research project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the “Chunhui Program” of the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, this workshop primarily featured academic reports by young scholars. It established an important platform for academic exchange and cooperation in the interdisciplinary field of brain science and artificial intelligence, attracting numerous top talents to gather and discuss new opportunities for development in cutting-edge fields. The chairpersons of this workshop were Professor Xie Songyun, Director of Shaanxi International Joint Research Center for Brain-Computer Integration and its Unmanned System Applications and Northwestern Polytechnical University; Professor Bai Junqiang, Executive Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence, Northwestern Polytechnical University; and Professor Lu Hongbing, Chairman of Shaanxi Biomedical Engineering Society and Air Force Medical University. Zhang Xin, Executive Deputy Director of the High-level Talent Office of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Bai Junqiang, Executive Dean, and Chang Min, Vice Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence, attended the event.

At the opening ceremony, Bai Junqiang delivered a speech, extending a warm welcome to scholars from China and Germany. He systematically introduced the development vision of the School of Artificial Intelligence at Northwestern Polytechnical University, emphasized the importance and urgency of interdisciplinary research in brain science and artificial intelligence, and sincerely invited outstanding scholars worldwide to join and jointly promote innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. Over 50 top young scholars, researchers, and industry experts from China and Germany participated in the conference, bringing their latest research findings and cutting-edge insights to engage in in-depth exchanges and discussions, thereby contributing to the innovative development of brain science and artificial intelligence.

The conference featured 9 special reports by scholars including Dr. Yang Lin from NIRx Medical Technologies, Dr. Zhang Wusu from Heidelberg University, Dr. Huang Huiyan from Morningsun Technology, Dr. Liu Peng and Dr. Xu Jiahua from the University of Tübingen, Researcher Li Galong from Air Force Medical University, Professor Li Ningfei, Associate Professor Ji Bowen, and Associate Professor Xie Xinzhou from Northwestern Polytechnical University. Scholars engaged in lively discussions on hot topics in brain science and artificial intelligence, including the latest research progress and related cutting-edge technologies in areas such as brain functional imaging, brain image analysis, and brain functional regulation, presenting a splendid academic feast. Lively discussions ensued during the reports.

Interdisciplinary research in brain science and artificial intelligence is an international research hotspot and the latest direction, as well as a key development area for the nation. The successful holding of this international workshop not only provided a high-quality platform for scholars in this field, both domestically and internationally, to showcase their achievements and exchange ideas, but also promoted cross-disciplinary integration and innovative development in brain science and artificial intelligence, pointing out new paths for future research directions and industrial applications in this field.
